30 AI prompts for car dealers (that actually save time)

Copy, fill in the brackets, paste into the AI assistant you use. Grouped by job, with the two rules that keep you out of trouble.

By the Drive Good teamUpdated October 20269 min read

In short: The prompts that save dealers the most time are specific: they give the AI the vehicle details, say exactly what to write and how long, and tell it what not to invent. Below are 30 of them for descriptions, buyer replies, follow-up, Google review replies, ads, staff training and the manager's day. Never paste private customer information into a general AI tool, and check every fact before anything goes out.

These prompts work in ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Meta AI or any general AI assistant. Copy one, replace everything in [square brackets] with your own details, and paste it in. Each assistant only knows what you give it: it doesn't see your DMS, your Messenger inbox or your dealership's rules unless you include them.

Two rules before you start

  • Never paste private customer information. No names with phone numbers, addresses, driver's licence details, credit applications or income. Write "the buyer" and add the name yourself before sending. Our guide to AI and privacy at Canadian dealerships explains why.
  • Check every fact before posting. AI can get trims, options and numbers wrong, or fill gaps with details that sound right. Compare every price, kilometre count and feature with the vehicle before anything goes public. Never let a prompt invent a price, a promotion or a financing rate, and follow your province's rules for advertised prices.

Vehicle descriptions

1. A full description from your notes

Write a listing description for a vehicle at a used car dealership in [city], about 120 words, in plain English. Use only the details below. Don't add features, history or condition details that aren't listed. End with an invitation to book a test drive.
Vehicle: [year make model trim]. Kilometres: [km]. Price: [price]. Features: [list]. Condition notes: [notes].

2. A short Marketplace version

Shorten this description to 5 lines for a Facebook Marketplace listing. Put the year, trim, kilometres and price first. Keep every fact exactly as written and add nothing.

Replies to buyers

6. "Is this still available?"

Write three short replies to a buyer who asked "Is this still available?" about our [vehicle]. Each one confirms it's available, gives one useful detail ([detail]) and ends with one question: a test-drive time or a walkaround video. Friendly, under 40 words each.

7. A question about features

A buyer asked: "[paste the question only, no name]". Answer using only this spec sheet. If the answer isn't in it, say we'll check and get back to them. Under 60 words.
Spec sheet: [paste]

8. The vehicle has sold

The [vehicle] a buyer asked about has sold. Write a short, friendly message telling them, and offer these similar vehicles: [year, trim, km, price for each]. End by asking which one they'd like to see.

9. A low offer

A buyer offered [amount] for a vehicle listed at [price]. Write a polite reply that doesn't accept, refuse or counter the offer. Thank them, say a manager will follow up about the price, and offer a test drive. Under 50 words.

Follow-up messages

11. A one-week follow-up sequence

Write a follow-up sequence for a buyer who asked about our [vehicle] and stopped answering: a text the next day, an email on day 3 and a text on day 7. Sign each message "[first name], [dealership name]" and end with "Reply STOP to unsubscribe."

12. After a test drive

Write a short thank-you text for a buyer who test drove the [vehicle] today. Mention one thing they liked: [detail]. Ask if they have questions about [trade-in / financing / next steps]. Under 45 words.

14. The last message

Write a short, respectful text asking a buyer who hasn't answered in a week whether they're still shopping for a [vehicle type] or would rather we stop writing. Make both answers easy. Under 30 words.

Follow-up texts and emails fall under Canada's anti-spam law, so keep sending only while you have consent. Our guide on how to follow up with car buyers has the full plan.

What DriveGood AI does so you don't have to prompt

Prompts save time, but someone still has to write them, copy the answers, check them and paste them in the right place, every day. DriveGood AI, Drive Good's own AI for vehicle dealers, does that work in the background, and dealers never log in to it:

  • Writes every vehicle description with the details buyers look for, and never invents details. See AI vehicle descriptions.
  • Answers buyers in Messenger, on Marketplace and on your Facebook page, right away, in English, French or Spanish, then asks about trade-in, financing, budget and timing. See the AI chatbot for car dealers.
  • Follows up every lead by text and email until the buyer answers, and books test drives in your calendar.
  • Replies to Google reviews in your dealership's voice and the reviewer's language. See AI review replies.
  • Creates vehicle videos for Marketplace, Instagram and TikTok from your photos or footage.

Every conversation is saved with the lead in your DMS, and DriveGood AI never negotiates a price or shares private information. For a side-by-side view, read DriveGood AI vs a general AI assistant or meet DriveGood AI.

FAQ

What is the best AI prompt for car sales?

One that gives the AI the exact vehicle details, says what to write and how long, and tells it not to invent anything. Prompts 1 and 6 above are good starting points.

Can I use ChatGPT to write vehicle descriptions?

Yes, if you give it the real details and check the result before posting. It only knows what you paste in, so missing details can turn into guesses.

Is it safe to paste a buyer's message into an AI assistant?

Paste only the question itself, without the buyer's name, phone number or other personal details. Add those yourself when you reply.

Do these prompts work in French?

Yes. Ask for Quebec French and give the terms you want used, as in prompts 3 and 17, then have a French speaker check the result.

How do I stop AI from making up vehicle features?

Say "use only the details below" and "add nothing," paste the real details, and run prompt 5 to compare the result with the vehicle before posting.

Do I need prompts to use DriveGood AI?

No. Dealers never log in to DriveGood AI; it works in the background, and you see leads, booked test drives and reports.
